Papa’s Social Care Navigation offering provides users with a team of social care navigators, including social workers, registered nurses, case managers and dieticians. This team can help with social issues the patient may be experiencing, including housing, paying for groceries and overdue health screenings. After only offering the program to a select group of health plan clients last year, Social Care Navigation is now available to all of Papa’s payer customers.

A series of recently released studies on Papa, a companion care company, found that the startup reduced emergency department visits, decreased healthcare spending and improved loneliness.

MedCity News interviewed CEOs of public companies, entrepreneurs, VCs and payers at the HLTH conference that concluded last week. They had a range of answers to the question. But one common theme emerged: Currently, everyone has a vise-like grip on expenditure.

The startup matches seniors with companions to help with non-medical tasks. It currently has partnerships with more than 65 health plans.
